MORE ABOUT THE DESIRABLES OF ABLUTION

 

  1. Is it Masnun or Mustahab to begin the ablution from the right side?

Ans. Some of the religious scholars hold it as  Sun-nah while the others regard it as Mustahab.

 

  1. How must one do the Mas-ha on (the back of) the neck?

Ans. The neck should be wiped with the back of fingers of both hands. It is a Bid'ah (innovation in religion) to perform the Mas-ha of the throat.

  1. What are other observances in the ablution?

Ans. There are a number of observances in ablution e.g.,

    1. putting the wet tip of the small finger into the earholes;
    2. performing ablution before the time for Salat;
    3. rubbing parts of the body before washing them;
    4. moving about the ring or ringlet in one's finger;
    5. talking no worldly things;
    6. avoiding violent splash of water on the face;
    7. not pouring too much water;
    8. reciting Tasmiah before washing every part;
    9. sending Salat on the Prophet (peace be on him) after ablution;
    10. reciting the Kalimah of Shahadah followed by the following prayer after ablution:

 

AL-LAHUM-MAJ'ALNI MINAT-TAW-WABINA WAJ'ALNI MINAL-MUTATAH-HIRIN.

    1. drinking the water left after ablution in the standing posture;
    2. offering two rak'ahs of Salat after ablution as Tahiy-yat-ul-wudu (thanks giving for the ablution), and soon.
