Witr prayer

Witr prayer is practically a night prayer. The Holy Prophet used to observe it along with Tahajjud prayer, and hence it is arranged with them. Sometimes he performed it at the end of I’sha prayer. Later on the practice came into vogue to say it say at the end of the I’sha prayers because it may not be said by the majority of the people in the latter part of the night.
Witr prayer consists of three rak’ats which are performed as usual except that in the third rak’at, after reciting Sura Fateha and a Sura, the worshipper, instead of going into Ruku, saying Allaho-Akber, raises his hands up to the ears and then refolds them and recites the following Duah, called QUNUT:

“O Allah! we beseech Thy help, and ask Thy protection and believe in Thee, and trust in Thee, and we laud Thee in the best manner, and we thank Thee, and we are not ungrateful to Thee, and we cast off and forsake him who disobeys Thee. O Allah! Thee do we serve and to Thee do we pray and make obeisance, and to Thee do we flee, and we are quick, and we hope for Thy mercy and we fear Thy chastisement, for surely Thy chastisement overtakes the unbelievers.”
