Latecommers

A person who comes late and joins the congregational services when it has already started, must, if he has missed one or more rak’ats, complete the number after the Imam has finished. A rak’at is deemed to have been completed when a person joins the Ruku, with even one Tasbi, though he may have missed the Qiyam. After the Imam’s right salaam the latecomer, saying Allaho-Akbar, stands up, and if he has missed the first one or two rak’ats, recites Sure Fateha plus another Sura, and if he has missed the third and fourth rak’ats also he reads only Sura Fateha in those rak’ats.
It should be noted that if a person has missed three rak’ats then after finishing one rak’at he sits down to read Attah-yat only and then stands up to complete the other two rak’ats.
