PRAYER-STAKE (SUTRA).

Sutra is a stake or stick which is fixed in front of a worshipper as a barrier in order that the people or any thing may not pass through the space between the worshipper and the stake. The stake in front of the Imam is also the stake of the followers. In other words, no one is allowed to pass through the open lines between the followers and the Imam. There is, however, no objection from going in front of the stick. “If anyone passes in front of the worshipper when there is no stake, he commits sin.” The stake must not be less than one yard in height and one finger’s hold in diameter. The stake is placed just a little distance away from the place where the forehead is to rest in Sajdah.
