Oven
not lighted for months |
||||||
(193) It is narrated
about Ayesha that she said to Urwah: “My nephew ! We [the members
of the Prophet’s family] [spent our days thus that] sometimes
we saw three successive moons [i.e., full two months elapsed] and oven
was not lighted in our houses.” [Urwah relates that, upon it,
he asked her], “How did you remain alive, then?” Ayesha
replied, “[We lived] on dates and water. Indeed, there were a
few Christian neighbours of the Prophet who had some milch cattle. They
[occasionally] sent him milk as a gift and he used to give some of it
to us also.” |
